URDANETA CITY, Philippines — A series of weak earthquakes has been shaking the coastal waters of Bolinao, Pangasinan, prompting the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) to intensify its monitoring.

The offshore tremors, which started on Thursday, were part of a cluster of seismic activities occurring beneath the West Philippine Sea, Phivolcs said, noting that most of the quakes were tectonic in origin.

Several weak temblors ranging from magnitudes 2.9 to 3.8 were recorded northwest of Bolinao over the past two days.

The strongest quake in the series was a magnitude 4.1, recorded at 7:32 a.m. on Friday and was located about 119 kilometers northwest of Bolinao.

On Thursday, a magnitude-3.4 quake struck Calayan in Cagayan, with its epicenter located about 10 kilometers southeast of Dalupiri Island.
