Amnesty for TNVS drivers mulled

MANILA, Philippines — Drivers onboarded despite exceeding the vehicle cap of transport network vehicle services (TNVS) could be given amnesty, under a proposal being studied by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
Some transport network companies (TNCs) have exceeded their driver and vehicle caps, DOTr Secretary Giovanni Lopez said over the weekend.
He noted that numerous drivers are facing a difficult situation after taking out loans for TNVS vehicles.
Commission rates down
Meanwhile, ride-hailing platforms Joyride, Angkas, and Maxim have reduced their commission rates to 18 percent from 20 percent.
Move It cut rates to 15 percent from 21 percent, while Para Xpress and Grabbike went down to 15 percent from 20 percent.
Grab, Toktok and Para Xpress’ rates went down to 15 percent from 20 percent, while Lalamove Rides, Pure Ride and Go Cab are at zero percent.
LTFRB Chairman Vigor Mendoza II said what the TNCs did is a “big boost toward efforts of the government to maximize the necessary assistance to the public transport sector amid the effects of the Middle East tensions.”
