Sharon Cuneta quips Marcos over ‘wrong’ VP choice
MANILA, Philippines — Megastar Sharon Cuneta teased President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. over his “wrong” choice of a vice president.
Her husband, Sen. Kiko Pangilinan, went up against now-Vice President Sara Duterte in the 2022 national elections. Duterte ran and won alongside Marcos under the Uniteam banner, but the relationship between the two leaders soured, and the two have become political rivals.
Marcos attended a gala event celebrating artists on Thursday night, where Cuneta sang to him and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos.
Cuneta opened her performance by saying that there was one thing she did not like about Marcos’ presidency: she missed the days where she could just text Araneta-Marcos for a bagnet.
The singer also quipped that she only had one vice president: her husband.
“I’ve only one vice president there… my date tonight. Mali your choice noh? Okay, okay let’s move on,” Cuneta said.
Cuneta said she hoped Marcos would succeed, and that he had her support.
Despite political tensions from the 2022 national elections, when her husband’s opposition alliance went against Marcos’ Uniteam, Cuneta has had long-running relations with the Marcos family, calling them old friends.
