MANILA, Philippines — The Sandiganbayan has deferred the arraignment of former lawmaker Bong Revilla and co-accused Juanito Mendoza for their malversation case due to pending appeals before the anti-graft court.

The arraignment, supposedly set for Monday, February 9, was postponed as Revilla and Mendoza have sought reconsideration of the Sandiganbayan's February 5 resolution denying their motions to quash the cases against them, among other pleadings.

Revilla's camp has also filed a motion seeking the inhibition of Sandiganbayan Third Division Chair Associate Justice Karl Miranda. The prosecution was directed to submit its comment on the motion within the prescribed period.

Other accused arraigned. Meanwhile, the arraignment of Revilla's other co-accused—Brice Hernandez, Jaypee Mendoza, Arjay Domasig, Emelita Juat, and Christina Mae Pineda—proceeded. All five entered pleas of not guilty.

Earlier rulings

The case is over the alleged anomalous P92.8 million flood control project in Pandi, Bulacan, which investigators from the Office of the Ombudsman said was non-existent.

On February 5, the Sandiganbayan denied motions filed by Revilla and Juat seeking transfer to the custody of the Philippine National Police.

The anti-graft court also denied their motions to quash the arrest warrants and the informations filed against them.
