P21.4M worth of illegal drugs seized in unclaimed parcels
MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs intercepted five unclaimed inbound parcels containing dangerous drugs valued at an estimated P21.4 million.
In a statement on Wednesday, December 24, the bureau said that it had seized the unclaimed parcels on December 15 at the Central Mail Exchange Center in Pasay City.
It has an estimated value of P21,405,900.
The parcels were declared as several consumer items, including an outdoor wall lamp, a bag, digital media discs, general merchandise and a book.
However, the shipments were flagged after exhibiting "suspicious indicators" during the initial screening process, according to the bureau.
Physical inspection revealed the following content:
- Shabu: 2,928 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride with an estimated value of P19,910,400.
- Kush: 997 grams of high-grade marijuana with an estimated street value of P1,495,500.
The seized narcotics have been turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for proper disposition and further investigation into the senders and intended recipients.
The Bureau noted that the shipment constitutes a violation of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and Republic Act No. 10863, or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
