'Missing sabungeros' search: 57 more skeletal remains found in Taal Lake

MANILA, Philippines — Fifty-seven additional skeletal remains were recovered in Taal Lake this month as authorities continued the search for the “missing sabungeros,” the Department of Justice (DOJ) said Thursday.
At a press conference on November 20, DOJ spokesperson Polo Martinez said the remains were found after search operations resumed in November. The efforts had been suspended in October due to bad weather.
Martinez said 25 skeletal remains were found on November 6, followed by 26 more on November 18.
On November 17, search teams recovered six bone fragments along with personal belongings, including black pants, a belt, white underwear, and a piece of cut wheat-flour cloth.
The ongoing search began on July 10 after Julie Patidongan alleged that the missing cockfight enthusiasts were killed and thrown into the lake.
These latest recoveries add to the 981 bones found since operations began up to October 12. As of October 21, 887 of those were confirmed to be human skeletal fragments, Martinez said.
