Lacson debunks rumors of another coup for Senate presidency

MANILA, Philippines — Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo "Ping" Lacson on Sunday, September 14, dismissed a post claiming a new Senate leadership change was underway.
The post, from a page named “OneTV Philippines,” alleged that Senate Minority Leader Allan Peter Cayetano had secured votes to assume the Senate presidency, aiming to replace newly elected Senate President Vicente "Tito" Sotto III.
In a social media post, Lacson called the claim fake, saying it was "intended to deceive and confuse." He described the post as "malevolent, underhanded, foul and desperate.
“Peke. Intended to deceive and confuse. Underestimating the intelligence of the new Senate majority bloc, nagba-baka sakaling may tumalon at magpirma,” Lacson said.

Lacson emphasized that any legitimate leadership change in the Senate would follow a “proper and professional way.”
“The proper and professional way is to call or approach the Senate president, inform and show him the resolution signed by at least 13 senators, then the sitting Senate President resigns at the opening of the session, not through a media outlet, whether nationally recognized or obscure,” Lacson said.
The statement comes shortly after a change in Senate leadership on September 8, when then-Senate Minority Leader Sotto was elected Senate President, replacing Senator Francis Escudero.
