Marcos declares special holidays in 6 areas

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has signed six new Republic Acts declaring special working and non-working holidays in various parts of the country.
Republic Act 12248 declares June 15 of every year a special non-working holiday in General Santos City to mark its charter anniversary.
Two cities will also observe special working holidays: the Island Garden City of Samal in Davao del Norte on March 7 for its foundation day (RA 12246), and San Juan City on August 30 to commemorate the Battle of Pinaglabanan (RA 12250).
Three other areas will also observe special working holidays. These include Bansalan, Davao del Sur, every September 18 for its foundation anniversary (RA 12247); Balayan, Batangas, every June 24 for the “Parada ng Lechon” (RA 12249); and San Mateo, Rizal, every September 21 to celebrate its foundation anniversary as Araw ng Bayan ng San Mateo (RA 12251).
By law, areas with special working holidays may be converted into special non-working holidays through proclamations issued by the president.
The measures, signed on August 29, will take effect 15 days after their publication in the Official Gazette or in a newspaper of general circulation.
