Call it DEPDev: NEDA now a department

MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos has signed into law a bill reorganizing the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) into the Department of Economy, Planning and Development (DEPDeV).
Republic Act (RA) 12145 also known as the “Economy, Planning and Development Act,” was enacted on April 10, as shown in a copy of the law obtained by reporters.
Under RA 12145, the President may retain the incumbent NEDA secretary as secretary of DEPDev, with no need for a new appointment.
The new law also reconstituted the NEDA Board into the Economy and Development Council.
The ED Council will be chaired by the President, while the DEPDev chief will serve as its vice chair.
The law will take effect 15 days after its publication in the Official Gazette or any newspaper of general circulation.
