CA receives DILG, DTI chiefs’ appointment papers

Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla takes his oath as secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government at Malacañang on October 8, 2024

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang has submitted to the congressional Commission on Appointments (CA) the ad interim appointment paper of newly installed Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla.

President Marcos appointed Remulla on Oct. 8 and submitted his appointment to the CA on Oct. 9 as indicated on the CA website.

Congress adjourned on Sept. 27 and will resume session on Nov. 4, thus the CA cannot yet tackle Remulla’s appointment until then.

“We (the CA) already have Secretary Remulla’s papers, but we won’t be able to tackle his appointment for now because Congress is adjourned. We are not in session,” CA Assistant Minority Leader and Surigao del Sur 2nd District Rep. Johnny Pimentel said in a statement yesterday.

Remulla replaced Benhur Abalos, who earlier resigned as Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) secretary to run for a Senate seat in the 2025 midterm elections.

Aside from Remulla, the CA also received the appointment papers of newly designated Trade Secretary Ma. Cristina Aldeguer-Roque on Sept. 30.

Aldeguer-Roque, the founder of the Kamiseta Group of Companies, was appointed on Sept. 26.

She replaced Alfredo Pascual, who resigned to return to the private sector.
