MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine government has increased the financial assistance that Filipinos repatriated from Lebanon will receive, from P50,000 to P150,000, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said yesterday.

Of the amount, P75,000 will come from the DMW and P75,000 will be provided by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

Documented and undocumented Filipinos will receive the cash aid, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said in an interview at Malacañang.

Cacdac clarified that only Filipinos from “war-like areas” will receive the P150,000 cash aid.

President Marcos has directed concerned agencies to review the financial aid for Filipino repatriates, he noted.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development will provide livelihood and financial assistance, while the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) will grant training vouchers, Cacdac said.

Labor, agriculture and tourism officials are also preparing assistance for repatriated Filipinos, he added.

The Philippine embassy in Lebanon is calling for the evacuation of Filipinos amid the intensifying conflict between Israeli and Hezbollah forces. Alert Level 3, or voluntary repatriation, remains in Lebanon. — Mayen Jaymalin, Evelyn Macairan
