Tropical Storm Dindo exits PAR

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Storm Dindo left the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) yesterday morning, less than 24 hours after it developed into a typhoon, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

At a briefing, PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said that another low-pressure area (LPA) is being monitored outside PAR.

“At 8:15 in the morning (yesterday) Tropical Storm Dindo exited PAR,” Aurelio said.

On Sunday night, PAGASA announced that the LPA over the east of Taiwan had developed into Tropical Depression Dindo (international name Jongdari).

Aurelio said the center of storm Dindo was located 670 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes with maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

“It is moving northeastward slowly towards Japan,” he said.

The state weather bureau said that over the next three days, Tropical Storm Dindo is forecast to move over the Sea of Japan and Yellow Sea toward the Korean Peninsula.

Aurelio added that Dindo has enhanced the southwest monsoon and is currently affecting extreme Northern Luzon. “We expect rains brought by the weak southwest monsoon in Batanes and Babuyan Islands,” he said.

Meanwhile, Aurelio said the LPA outside PAR is expected to enter the country today or tomorrow.

“As of now, there is still a chance that the LPA will develop… but will not affect any part of the country,” he said.

Aurelio said the rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will experience sunny weather and isolated rains in the afternoon and in the evening due to localized thunderstorms. — Ghio Ong
