MANILA, Philippines — Hindi man pinalad na makuha ang tiket sa Paris Olympics, nakataas ang noo ng Gilas Pilipinas na uuwi ng Pilipinas.

Umani ang Gilas Pilipinas ng 60-71 kabiguan sa kamay ng Brazil sa semifinals ng FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament sa Riga, Latvia.

Ngunit masayang uuwi ng bansa ang Gilas Pilipinas dahil sa respetong nakuha nito sa Olympic qualifiers.

Para kay Gilas Pilipinas head coach Tim Cone, kayang makipagsabayan ng Pinoy cagers sa mga world class teams.

Walang dapat ikalungkot dahil maraming natutunan ang kanilang tropa sa torneong ito.

“It’s hard to talk about this right after you lose. But it’s a growth experience for us. It’s kind of like a ‘now, we know’ moment. Now, we know we can compete. How can we get that next step in which we can get a little bit better and not just compete, but win,” ani Cone.

Iginiit ni Cone na mananatili ang Gilas squad para paghandaan ang iba pang malalaking torneong lalahukan ng tropa kabilang na ang 2027 FIBA World Cup at Olympics sa Los Angeles sa 2028.

“The whole part of bringing this particular program together, which is different from what we had in the World Cup, is the fact that we are hopefully going to keep these guys together for the next three to four years, try to keep them together going into the next World Cup,” ani Cone.

Masakit ang kabiguan ng Gilas dahil abot-kamay na nito ang panalo kontra sa Brazil.

Nagawa pang makalamang ng Pinoy squad sa first half.

Subalit hindi agad ito nakapag-adjust nang bu­manat ng husto ang Brazil sa third quarter.

Gayunpaman, mala­king tagumpay para sa Gilas na mabigyan ng magandang laban ang Brazil.
