MANILA, Philippines — Motorists traversing the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) will have to pay higher toll rates starting next week after the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) approved its implementation.

This comes after TRB executive director Alvin Carullo recently disclosed that the next tranche of toll increase would be approved soon, supplementing last year's hike.

"The TRB has approved the implementation of the 2nd and final tranche of the provisionally approved toll rate adjustments for NLEX Corp.’s consolidated 2018 and 2020 petitions," said the TRB last Tuesday.

"Following the compliance with the publication and posting of surety bond requirements under Section 1, Rule 5 of the TRB Revised Rules of Procedure, the TRB issued on 14 May 2024 a Notice to Start Collection (NTSC) for the subject 2nd tranche authorizing NLEX Corp. to collect the new adjusted toll rates."

After which, the NLEX Corp. in its letter dated May 22, 2024 notified the TRB that it will start the collection of the new toll rates come June 4.

Because of this, expressway users will have to pay the following additional toll fees at the NLEX.

At the Open System: (Balintawak/Caloocan/Mindanao Ave. To North of Marilao)

  • P5.00 for Class 1
  • P14.00 Class 2
  • P17.00 for Class 3

From North of Marilao to Sta. Ines in Mabalacat, Pampanga

  • P21.00 for Class 1
  • P54.00 for Class 2
  • P65.00 for Class 3

Subic-Tipo (Segment 7)

  • P2.00 for Class 1
  • P7.00 for Class 2
  • P8.00 for Class 3

Balintawak/C3/Mindanao Ave. to Sta. Ines in Mabalacat, Pampanga

  • P27.00 for Class 1
  • P68.00 for Class 2
  • P81.00 for Class 3

NLEX earlier implemented a toll hike in June 2023, but was only permitted to collect half of the 2018 and 2020 increases to help "curb the existing inflationary situation and cushion their impact on the users of the expressway."

TRB also approved toll hikes for the Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway this year as part of its second tranche of increases.
