MANILA, Philippines — Three Philippine universities landed in four of five major subject areas in this year’s Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject.

The University of the Philippines is the only Philippine university ranked in engineering and technology and life sciences and medicine.

In life sciences and medicine, UP was ranked within the 501-550 bracket and the same bracket in engineering and technology.

Meanwhile, Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) was named the top Philippine university in the arts and humanities at 325th globally, followed by UP at 351st and De La Salle University in the 401-450 bracket.

UP is the top Philippine university in social sciences and management at 276th globally, followed by ADMU and DLSU, which both placed within the 401-450 bracket.

No Philippine university made it to the rankings in natural sciences.

UP, however, is listed as the lone Philippine university in four specific subjects in natural sciences: geography (201-230), environmental sciences (351-400), mathematics (501-550), and physics and astronomy (551-600).

The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024 features 55 individual subjects across five broad areas.

QS said that 1,559 institutions were ranked across these subjects this year, with 64 universities entering the rankings.
