MANILA, Philippines — More than two million tourists visited the country from January to March this year, according to the Department of Tourism (DOT).

Of the figure, 94.21 percent or close to 1.9 million were foreigners while the remaining 5.79 percent or 116,446 were overseas Filipinos.

South Korea was the Philippines’ top source of tourists with 546,726 or 27.19 percent, followed by the United States, China, Japan, Australia, Canada, Taiwan, United Kingdom, Singapore and Germany.

Foreign tourists brought in revenues amounting to P157.62 billion, the agency said.

The running total number of foreign tourist arrivals and tourism receipts were higher than those recorded in the first quarter of 2023 with almost 1.75 million travelers and P130.59 billion, respectively.

The agency pegged its target of foreign tourist arrivals this year at 7.7 million, making the current tally one-fourth of the target.

The 2024 target is slightly lower than the DOT’s record of 8.26 million tourists, which was said to be the highest.

Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco said the agency “sees a positive trajectory for the country’s international tourist arrivals this year.”
