MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines has reiterated its commitment to contribute to global disaster risk reduction efforts through continued partnerships with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR).

During the Philippines’ participation in the UNDRR donor meeting, Permanent Representative Carlos Sorreta recalled the Philippines’ voluntary financial contributions to the group and separate contributions to the Global Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction and the Midterm Review of the Sendai Framework.

He recognized the role of the UNDRR in encouraging and facilitating cooperation among governments and stakeholders.

“We believe that there is an urgency to implement the Sendai Framework and to build risk resilience especially in hazard-prone and climate change-vulnerable countries such as the Philippines, and the UNDRR plays a key role in this regard,” Sorreta said.

He also said the Philippines will be bringing the conversation on disaster risk reduction and resilience to the Asia Pacific region, as the country is set to host the Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in October 2024.

The Philippines has been a consistent donor and supporter of the UNDRR.
