New Philstar Media Group VP named

A 33-year veteran of The Philippine STAR, Sarmiento takes on the new role after a fruitful two-year stint as sales and marketing director of the Philstar Media Group, during which she was pivotal in helping execute sales programs to generate value to the Group’s various titles alongside The STAR’s EVP for sales and marketing, Lucien Dy Tioco. MANILA, Philippines — The Philstar Media Group is pleased to announce the promotion of Jay R. Sarmiento as vice president for sales and marketing effective today.

A 33-year veteran of The Philippine STAR, Sarmiento takes on the new role after a fruitful two-year stint as sales and marketing director of the Philstar Media Group, during which she was pivotal in helping execute sales programs to generate value to the Group’s various titles alongside The STAR’s EVP for sales and marketing, Lucien Dy Tioco. These titles include The Philippine STAR, BusinessWorld, Pilipino Star Ngayon and The Freeman.

Sarmiento’s portfolio includes previous roles in market research, corporate communications, events management and marketing in The STAR before joining the sales team of the Philstar Media Group. She joined The STAR’s Research team in 1990 after earning a BS degree in Statistics at the University of the Philippines. She later headed the department before being appointed corporate communications manager in 1998.

Sarmiento helped revitalize the BusinessWorld’s sales and marketing efforts following its acquisition by The STAR in 2015, spearheading the award-winning BusinessWorld economic forums and other flagship projects of the leading business title.

Aside from representing The STAR as Vice President of the United Print Media Group (UPMG), the premier association of major publication companies in the country, she is also active in various industry associations such as the Ad Standards Council of the Philippines, Philippine Association of National Advertisers, Philippine Marketing Association and the Advertising Foundation of the Philippines.

As Vice President for Sales and Marketing, she will help boost Philstar Media Group’s competitiveness in terms of developing new revenue-generating programs, promoting strategic partnerships, building brand recognition and scaling sales revenues to impact the company’s bottomline as it embraces innovation amid a constantly changing media landscape.
