MANILA, Philippines — Up to 400 Filipinos might have been affected by the strong earthquake in Morocco, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
“The estimate is around 350 to 400 affected Filipinos in that central part, the Marrakesh area,” DMW officer-in-charge Hans Cacdac said in a television interview yesterday.
Cacdac noted that the earthquake hit the central part of Morocco or south of Casablanca and Rabat where most Filipinos are staying.
He stressed the DMW has not yet received reports of Filipinos actually affected by the quake but they are closely coordinating with the Department of Foreign Affairs in monitoring the situation of Filipinos in Morocco.
The DMW is ready to send basic needs and necessities like no-cook food for Filipinos in Morocco and an augmentation team to help the Moroccan people, Cacdac said.
