MANILA, Philippines — Is a royal visit to the Philippines forthcoming?

The United Kingdom’s King Charles III “hopes to visit the Philippines soon,” according to Philippine Ambassador to the UK Teodoro Locsin Jr.

Locsin made the announcement on Twitter after he presented his credentials to Charles at Buckingham Palace on May 16.

He said the king also asked about the well-being of former first lady Imelda Marco.

Earlier this month, President Marcos and his wife, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, attended the coronation of the British monarch.

“It was a great honor for me to represent the Philippines on such a historic occasion,” Marcos said in a statement following the coronation.

“Filipinos wish His Majesty King Charles III a long and happy reign. May his coronation signify the start of a new chapter of peace, progress and prosperity for the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth,” he added.

No statement has been issued by the British embassy or Buckingham Palace regarding a possible visit to the Philippines.
