Robredo camp mulls legal action on Sison adviser report
MANILA, Philippines — The camp of Vice President Leni Robredo is bent on pursuing legal action against those who falsely reported that Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founder Jose Maria Sison is one of her advisers.
In an interview on TeleRadyo, lawyer Barry Gutierrez said their team is studying legal action for the false reports “that may become the norm if those responsible are not made accountable.”
Gutierrez was referring to an online article that cited Ang Bayan, official publication of the CPP, quoting Sison expressing support for Robredo and admitting that he is acting as adviser to her and her spokesperson.
“It’s not only an anonymous article spread as fake news on Facebook or YouTube. There is a byline,” Gutierrez said in Filipino.
Robredo denied that Sison, who is in self-exile in the Netherlands, is advising her or Gutierrez.
“I have never even talked to him ever, personally or through whatever means,” Robredo said. “Our lawyers are currently studying how we can file charges to hold whoever spread this lie accountable.”
Sison denied the news report that he is an adviser of Robredo and her spokesperson.
Friends and supporters celebrated Robredo’s 57th birthday on Saturday, packing the two-kilometer stretch of Macapagal Avenue from Gil Puyat Avenue up to EDSA in Pasay City.
It was one of the largest rallies for Robredo, with several entertainment stars performing or endorsing her candidacy together with her running mate Sen. Francis Pangilinan.
