DOST develops ready-to-eat chicken corn soup
MANILA, Philippines — After successfully developing ready-to-eat chicken arroz caldo as a hot and healthier foodstuff, especially for disaster evacuation centers, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is developing ready-to-eat (RTE) chicken corn soup.
Science Secretary Fortunato dela Peña said the RTE chicken corn soup would be recommended as a nutritious food option for children and the elderly.
The chicken corn soup will be a new product in the DOST’s “Pack of Hope” brand name it has developed like the pioneer product RTE chicken arroz caldo that can be served as a relief food for the elderly and children who cannot easily chew solid food.
Dela Peña said the chicken corn soup has been formulated to have a distinct and acceptable taste both for children and the elderly.
“The next step is to upscale RTE chicken corn soup production for field testing and validation study,” Dela Peña said in his weekly virtual Bayanihan report last Friday.
The DOST will work with the Department of Social Welfare and Development for the adoption of the RTE food technology, in a pilot project to be conducted in Region 2 or Cagayan Valley.
