MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine STAR’s weeklong fund drive for typhoon-hit families in Cagayan got another boost after San Miguel Corp. president and CEO Ramon S. Ang upped his personal donation from P1 million to P2 million yesterday.
This is in addition to SMC’s donation of 120 boxes of canned goods that will be distributed to evacuees in Tuguegarao City along with other essentials that have been packed by STAR volunteers as relief operations were underway.
“We thank Mr. Ramon Ang for his generous donation to our typhoon relief effort. His personal contribution will really go a long way towards helping families who find themselves in dire need after the recent typhoons deprived them of their belongings and livelihood,” said Philippine STAR president and CEO Miguel Belmonte.
Operation Damayan, The STAR’s humanitarian arm, activated its fund drive early this week and will initially carry out relief operations in four evacuation sites in Tuguegarao City.
This will be followed by relief operations in other areas that had been similarly devastated by Typhoons Ulysses and Rolly.
As the fund-raising effort winded down, two more individual donations were received from JT, P20,000 and Edgardo Cunanan, P5,000, bringing the total cash donations to P5.038 million.
Operation Damayan is grateful for the support of corporate and individual donors and for their concern for the plight of our countrymen.
