Noveleta town steps up facility for Taal evacuees with double deck beds, buffet
MANILA, Philippines (Update 2: Jan. 24, 2020, 6:25 p.m.)— More than a week after the Taal eruption, the municipality of Noveleta, Cavite made its evacuation center more comfortable by adding double-deck beds and providing food buffet style.
On his social media accounts, Noveleta Mayor Dino Reyes-Chua shared that it set up double decks and a food buffet with waiters in its evacuation center located in Barangay San Jose, Novelete, Cavite, as a way of giving back to the victims of Taal's unrest.
"Noveleta is a coastal town in the Province of Cavite and is a flood prone municipality and we are always affected by storm surge during typhoon season. We have received a lot of support from different areas during those times na kami ang nasasalanta," Chua said.
"Now it’s time for us to show na kami naman ang tumulong sa mga nasalanta nating kababayan. Said Mayor Dino Reyes-Chua of Noveleta, Cavite," he added.
Chua added that aside from the beds and food, they also have cinema-like video wall, charging stations and free WiFi.
Several online users praised the municipal government for its efforts and also shared photos of the evacuation centers dubbed as “sosyal” or “posh.”
Online user and Taal, Batangas resident Joshua Capul lauded the comfortable features of Noveleta’s evacuation center, saying that it makes evacuees feel “dignified.”
“Dahil matinding usapin ngayon ang dignidad para sa mga evacuees, ito na at nag-level up na tayo,” Capul wrote as he thanked Chua and the municipal government’s initiative.
Jeg Alix, a Noveleta resident, also proudly shared photos of the buffet lunch for the evacuees.
More than 147,000 individuals have sought shelter in various evacuation centers in Batangas and Cavite provinces after Taal erupted last January 12.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said Alert Level 4 remains in effect over Taal, which means a hazardous explosive eruption may still happen.
Areas within the 14-kilometer radius are declared high-risk zones.
