MANILA, Philippines — Fair weather will prevail in most parts of the country during the New Year as no tropical cyclone is forecast to enter the country until next week, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said yesterday.

However, the northeast monsoon will bring cloudy skies with isolated light rains today.

The Ilocos region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora province and the rest of Cagayan Valley will experience cloudy skies with scattered light to moderate rains due to the tail-end of a cold front.

The easterlies will bring generally fair and warm weather across the country tomorrow and on Monday, Rizal Day, with chances of afternoon or evening rains due to thunderstorms.

On New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, PAGASA said it expects a surge of the northeast monsoon, which will bring cloudy skies with light rains over extreme Northern Luzon.

The agency said the tail-end of a cold front will also return during the period, bringing cloudy skies with scattered light to moderate rains over Cagayan, Isabela and Aurora.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will experience fair and cooler weather, especially in the morning. The rest of the country will have sunny and warm weather apart from isolated rainshowers.

On Jan. 2 and 3, the northeast monsoon will affect the whole of Luzon, bringing cool weather conditions. It will also bring cloudy skies with light rains over Northern Luzon and passing light rains over the rest of the region, including Metro Manila.

The rest of the country will have fair weather with possible occurrence of isolated thunderstorms.

“No tropical cyclone is expected to affect the country throughout the outlook period. Still, in light of the holiday season, the public is advised to continuously monitor for updates,” PAGASA weather division chief Esperanza Cayanan said.
