MANILA, Philippines — Workers will get additional pay for working today, a special non-working holiday in celebration of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reported yesterday.
In an advisory, DOLE noted that Dec. 8 has been declared a special non-working holiday, thus workers who render services are entitled to extra pay.
For work done during the special non-working day, DOLE said, workers shall be paid an additional 30 percent of their daily rate on the first eight hours of work.
For work in excess of eight hours during the special non-working day, workers would be paid an additional 30 percent of their hourly rate.
Those who will work during a special non-working day that also falls on the workers’ rest day shall be paid an additional 50 percent of their daily rate on the first eight hours of work.
Services in excess of eight hours during a special non-working day that also falls on the workers’ rest day shall be paid an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate.
But DOLE said that “no work, no pay” policy shall be applied during special non-working day.
“Unless there is a favorable company policy, practice, or collective bargaining agreement granting payment on a special day, no work no pay policy shall apply,” DOLE said.
DOLE has issued an advisory to guide employers on the proper pay rules.
