Go lauds youth leaders, vows more support for education
DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Christopher “Bong” Go lauded youth leaders from various local government units who gathered in the city this week for the National Youth Parliament.
“I am very glad to see our youth leaders gathered here to acquire the necessary tools, knowledge and skills in advocacy and policymaking. This will certainly be useful in performing your duties as Sangguniang Kabataan leaders and in honing your abilities as future leaders of your communities, localities and our country,” Go said in his speech on Oct. 22.
Go said he plans to put up a sports and development center in every local government unit that “will provide free training, equipment, coaching and even mentoring in entrepreneurship to our young citizens.”
In line with his advocacy to empower the youth, Go said that if elected to the Senate, he will push for the provision of free school supplies and other education-related needs such as uniforms for students to finish schooling. This will augment the free education act signed by President Duterte.
“Aside from free tuition, it is also equally important to provide students the necessary tools to finish schooling,” he added.
Go highlighted the key role played by the youth in the development of the country, as they will be the ones to benefit from the prosperous and safe future they sow today.
At the same event, Go said he will study the suggestion of NYC chairman Ronald Cardema and other SK leaders to amend the SK Reform Act so that government can provide allowances to all SK officials in the fulfillment of their duties.
