Cops fail to file complaint vs Drew Olivar due to insufficient documents
MANILA, Philippines — Police on Tuesday failed to file a complaint against blogger Drew Olivar due to the lack of crucial details.
Members of the National Capital Region Police Office went to the Department of Justice office at Padre Faura on Tuesday to file the complaint, but Senior Inspector Myrna Diploma of the NCRPO Public Information Office said they still need to gather evidence for the Justice department to accept their complaint.
“We still need to coordinate with our Anti-Cybercrime Unit to complete the evidence for the filing, referral of the case against Olivar at the DOJ,” Diploma said.
Director General Oscar Albayalde said on Monday that despite Olivar’s apology, he would still face a complaint for a bomb scare the blogger posted on his Facebook.
Last week, he drew flak for his Facebook post alluding that a bombing similar to Plaza Miranda in 1971 might happen on September 21.
Olivar is known as Presidential Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson’s co-host in an online show.
“Ay nakakatakot naman mag-rally sa EDSA, kasi may kumakalat na baka maulit daw yung pagbomba kagaya ng Plaza Miranda! Kung ako sa inyo, hindi na ako pupunta (Joining a rally on EDSA is scary because reports are spreading that the bombing of Plaza Miranda might happen again. If I were you, I would not go),” Olivar said in a Facebook post, which has now been taken down.
Albayalde said that Olivar would be facing a complaint for violating Presidential Decree 1727, which is informally called the “Anti-Bomb Joke Law.”
Under the decree, violators will be punished with imprisonment of not more than five years or a fine of not more than P40,000. — Kristine Joy Patag
