MANILA, Philippines — Political parties aiming to run as a coalition in the May 2019 polls have until Sept. 16 to file a petition for registration with the Commission on Elections (Comelec), a resolution showed yesterday.

Based on Comelec Resolution 10415 promulgated last Aug. 29, the poll body extended the deadline for the filing of registration of coalition of political parties from Aug. 31 to Sept. 14.

“The Comelec has the power to enforce and administer all laws and regulations relative to the conduct of an election, plebiscite, initiative, referendum and recall pursuant to Sec. 2(1), Article IX-C of the 1987 Constitution... It hereby resolves to extend the filing for registration of coalition of political parties,” it read.

The new resolution amends Comelec Resolution 10395 of June 19, 2018, which sets the deadline for the filing of petition for the registration of political parties last Aug. 15.
