MANILA, Philippines - Senator Alan Peter Cayetano has vowed to bring back order and security to the lives of Filipinos should he be lucky to get elected as the country’s next vice president.
Cayetano said he is concerned that there is now so much disorder and lack of security in the country.
"People wake up telling themselves, 'napakagulo naman ng buhay.' Crime, drugs and corruption. It's a constant perturbation of the mind. Sobra na ang gulo at hirap na dinaranas ng tao," he said.
Cayetano explained that this is what he and his running mate, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo "Rody" Duterte want to address in their first year of government if elected in the coming May polls.
"Mayor Duterte and I both believe we need a strong developmental state to promote real inclusive growth through regional development. But we need to build first the suitable condition by cracking down on crime, drugs and government corruption," he said.
Cayetano said he and Mayor Duterte will strengthen the country's security forces. He added that the corrupt police and military officials will also be removed from service.
In addition, Cayetano said, better salaries and incentives for law enforcers will also be provided under a Duterte-Cayetano administration as well as the modernization of the country’s anti-crime and anti-illegal drugs structures.
"Hindi na uubra ang pwede na o papatak-patak na pagbabago. Sa amin ni Mayor Duterte, makakaasa ang lahat ng tunay at tuloy-tuloy na pagbabago," he said.
