NPDC launches scholarship program tonight
MANILA, Philippines - A P10 text donation for scholarships to help send 40 bright but underprivileged students to school will be launched at Rizal Park in Manila tonight during the New Year countdown of the National Parks and Development Committee (NPDC).
A tie-up with Heroes Project PH, the project aims to raise P1.6 million.
Mike Chan, vocalist of the band Mike Chan and Anthem, has partnered with the NPDC to hold the official launching of the donation, according to NPDC executive director Elizabeth Espino.
“The project is for a good cause. Education is tops,” she said. “Education is a priority to sustain the development of our population, of our country.”
The P1.6 million to be raised will cover the non-tuition school expenses of the 40 scholars like allowances, miscellaneous fees and uniforms for the next school year, she added.
They have six months, from January to June, to raise the amount, Espino said.
They would also be going around the country, holding mall tours to promote the Heroes Project PH, she added.
Several private schools have agreed to pay for the tuition of the 40 scholars.
This is the second year that the NPDC has joined Chan in the project. Last year, the program had 20 beneficiaries.
In return for promoting the project, Chan and his artist-friends would provide entertainment during the concert.
To join the text donation that begins during the countdown, Globe Telecom subscribers should type “HEROES” and send to 3456.
