Korean president lands in Manila for APEC

MANILA, Philippines – South Korean President Park Geun-Hye  on Tuesday arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 right after attending the G-20 Leaders’ Summit in Antalya, Turkey.
 
She was greeted by Philippine ambassador to Korea Raul Hernandez, Korean ambassador to the Philippines Jae-Shin Kim and Interior Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento.
 
Park’s presidential plane had the Korean and Philippine flag.
 
Park, the first female president in Korea, will attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting but she will not deliver any speech.
 
Park is the 11th president of South Korea and a daughter of South Korea’s former President Park Chung-hee who served the country from 1962 to 1979.
 
Prior to her presidency, Park served as the chair of the conservative Grand National Party now called “Saenuri.” She is also a member of Korean National Assembly and served four complete consecutive parliamentary terms as constituency representative between 1998 and 2012.
 
Park was named the world’s 11th most powerful woman and the most powerful woman in East Asia by Forbes Magazine in 2013 and 2014. She was also named the world’s 46th most powerful person by the same outfit in its 2014 World’s Most Powerful People list.
 
South Korea is the Philippines’s fifth major trading partner, sixth biggest export market and fifth biggest import supplier.
