Papua New Guinea PM arrives ahead of APEC leaders' meeting

MANILA, Philippines – Papua New Guinea’s Prime Minister Peter Charles Paire O’Neill on Monday afternoon arrived at the Villamor Air Base, Manila two days ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting in Manila.

O’Neill, the ninth prime minister of Papua New Guinea, was the first leader to arrive in the country at the Villamor Air Base. 

The prime minister is set to lead the open forum discussing “The Future of Asia Pacific Growth” on Tuesday morning.

Prior to being sworn as prime minister in 2012, O’Neill first served as the government treasurer in the government of Papua New Guinea’s Prime Minister in 2007, Michael Somare. He was also appointed acting prime minister in 2011 when Prime Minister Michael Somare got ill.

Papua New Guinea became a member of the APEC in November 1993.
