‘Lando’ leaves 2 dead, affects over 4,000 families

MANILA, Philippines – The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Monday morning reported two fatalities and over 4,000 families affected during the onslaught of Typhoon “Lando.”

NDRRMC said the two confirmed casualties were identified as 62-year-old Benita Famanilay from Subic, Zambales and 14-year-old Rannel Castillo from Quezon City.

Famanilay died from severe head injury caused by collapsed wall while Castillo was killed due to eviscerate wound from a toppled tree.

Aside from the two fatalities, NDRRMC also reported one injured in Subic, Zambales and four injured in Quezon City.

Based on the record of NDRRMC, “Lando” affected 4,892 families equivalent to 20,492 people in Regions 1, 2, 3, 4-A and 5, as well as the Cordillera Autonomous Region.

About 1,830 families or 6,776 of these were evacuated preemptively.

At the height of Typhoon “Lando” NDRRMC recorded 17 incidents in Regions 1, 2, 3 and National Capital Region which include 15 flooding, a collapsed wall and toppled tree. These regions also experienced power outage.

“Lando” also recorded an estimated P520,000 damage to property in Barangay Barihay, San Andres, Catanduanes in Region 5.

NDRRMC also reported 6,529 passengers, 89 vessels 42 motor bancas, 633 rolling cargoes stranded from the rough sea condition.

The slow-moving “Lando” is expected to exit the country by Wednesday or Thursday and head towards Taiwan.
