MANILA, Philippines – Senate President Franklin Drilon on Monday expressed confidence that the Liberal Party’s (LP) vice presidential bet, Camarines Sur Rep. Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo will emerge victorious in the 2016 polls.

Asked if Robredo can still win the vice presidency seat despite low ratings in the surveys, Drilon remained positive that she will win citing LP standard bearer Manuel “Mar” Roxas II’s ratings as an example.

“Alam mo nung apat na porsyento lang si Mar Roxas, sinasabi, ‘Mananalo ba iyan?’ Ngayon ay nandiyan na naman sa media, "Pitong porsyento lang, mananalo ba iyan?" Mananalo iyan,” Drilon said in an interview with reporters after the Senate centennial anniversary launch.

Drilon also mentioned that Robredo’s simplicity and sincerity will go a long way.

“Among the vice presidential bets, Leni Robredo stands out. Her sincerity, simple background will help her win,” Drilon said in a televised interview with ANC on Tuesday.

“Si Leni Robredo, she represents women, she is the best example of what good governance is all about. She has always stood by the principle of "Matuwid na Daan," and the sincerity of the person is very clear,” said Drilon during the Monday interview.

To date, Robredo is the only woman running for vice president.

Robredo registered single digits in the latest vice presidential preference surveys conducted by the Social Weather Stations and Pulse Asia.
