MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang on Friday condemned the Liberal Party (LP) event in Laguna that featured women performing a lewd dance number.
"Women are not objects to be given away as gifts during celebrations," Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said in a text message.
"The president has always stood firm against the exploitation of women and will not condone such displays of disrespect," she added.
Videos uploaded on YouTube and Facebook showed three scantily clad female dancers during the birthday celebration of Laguna Rep. Benjamin Agarao Jr.
One of the dancers was seen on top of the crotch of an unidentified male wearing a yellow shirt and simulating sexual act.
The emcee of the program reportedly told the audience that the dancers were sent as a "surprise gift" by Metro Manila Development Authority Chairman Francis Tolentino to Agarao.

The controversial event was held after the oath-taking ceremony of new LP members attended by its presidential candidate Manuel Roxas II.
Tolentino, who announced recently that he will run for Senate, drew flak due to the controversy but denied that he brought the sexy dancers.
"Please hear my side of the story about certain materials circulating online: I was just a guest at the birthday party. I did not bring any dancers/singers. The emcee probably got misinformed," Tolentino said in a statement sent to media.
This morning, Roxas said the LP leadership is now looking into the incident. - Louis Bacani
