MANILA, Philippines – Nacionalista Party member Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Wednesday said he is also planning to run for vice president like his co-NP member Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano.

Marcos answered that he is also seeking the second highest post in the country when asked by students of Universidad de Manila.

“Yes, I’m also planning to run for vice president,” Marcos said in a dialogue a day after his party-mate Cayetano announced his vice presidential bid.

Marcos said he still considers re-election as an option, “but as of now, talks are focused about vice presidency.”

On Monday, Marcos admitted that he was has been discussing his plans for 2016 with different groups including declared presidential candidate Vice President Jejomar “Jojo” Binay, who is still looking for his candidate, and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte, urged by supporters to run for president.

The son of former President Ferdinand Marcos also visited former president and current Manila Mayor Joseph "Erap" Ejercito Estrada after the dialogue with the students.

Binay confirmed their camp is considering Marcos as his running mate.

Once Marcos joins the vice presidential derby, he will be the third senator from NP who will run for the second highest post in the country and the fifth incumbent senator to seek a higher position in the 2016 elections.

Other NP members to run for vice president are Cayetano and Sen. Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV, who was first to declare his vice presidential bid.

NP’s Sen. Cynthia Villar earlier said they will declare a “free zone” within their party if two or more of its members run in the same post.
