CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga - When he is hoisted on the cross for the 29th time on Good Friday, signboard maker Ruben Enaje will not only be praying for himself, his family and friends.
Enaje, 54, said he will be praying for the relatives of the slain 44 Special Action Force (SAF) commandos during his real-life crucifixion reenactment in Barangay San Pedro Cutud in this Pampanga capital.
"Sana maging malakas ang kanilang loob sa nangyari sa kanilang mga mahal sa buhay," Enaje told Philstar.com.
President Aquino, who is facing his biggest crisis over the Mamasapano incident, would also be in Enaje's prayers.
Enaje said he would pray for Aquino's improved leadership and governance.
"Kung may nagawa mang kasalanan si PNoy, siguro nakaguhit na yun sa kanyang palad," he said. "Kung hindi man nakaguhit, mga aksidente na hindi naman dapat mangyari, 'yung kapabayaan, lalo na dito sa huli (Mamasapano incident)."
Enaje said he would also be praying for world peace and for the country, that government leaders would help poor Filipinos like him.
"Sa mga pinuno natin, sana naman, kung anuman yung nagiging problema ng ating bansa, solusyonan po agad. Wala nang sisihan sa ating mga kasamahan na nanunungkulan dito," he said.
Enaje's first nine years of being nailed to the cross started in 1986 or a year after surviving a high fall during construction work. It was his way of thanking God.
For nine more years, Enaje continued his "panata" or vow to pray for his daughter, Ejay, who had asthma.
In the next years, Enaje reenacted Christ's crucifixion for his wife, Juanita, who had a lump on her jaw.
