MANILA, Philippines - Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II yesterday called on local chief executives to prevent conflict or tension from arising due to the postponement of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.
President Aquino signed the law postponing the SK elections from April this year to October next year.
Roxas called on local chief executives to help the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) inform and explain to the youth the postponement of the SK polls.
The DILG, for its part, has been active in training and building the capacity of members of the Task Force on Youth Development that temporarily took the place of the SK when elections were first postponed in 2013.
Roxas noted that while there has been a public clamor either for the SK’s abolition or reform, Congress is set to pass soon a reformed SK law with new provisions.
