MANILA, Philippines - Tropical storm "Bavi" (international name) is weakening but is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Tuesday afternoon.
The tropical storm will be named "Betty" once it enters the country this afternoon At 10:00 a.m., it was spotted 1,530 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Atmospheric Service Administration (PAGASA), the typhoon is expected to weaken into a tropical depression within the next 24 to 36 hours.
"Itong bagyo... ay inaasahang hihina. Maaari po maging tropial depression or maging low pressure area sa kalupaan," PAGASA weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said.
Tropical storm Bavi is packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) along the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.
It is forecasted to make landfall over Aurora province by Friday. The provinces of Camarines, Quezon and Aurora may experience light to moderate rains by Saturday.
