MANILA, Philippines - Members of the family of Cavite Vice Governor Jolo Revilla will cooperate with the ongoing investigation on the shooting of the local official last Saturday, their lawyer and spokesperson said Tuesday.
Lawyer Raymond Fortun said the Revilla family sees nothing special about the task force formed to probe into the incident.
"The task force is a normal action of the police out of respect for Vice Governor Revilla. [It is] to ensure that there was legitimate police action to the incident," Fortun said in a text message.
"The Revilla family will cooperate fully in the police efforts," he added.
National Capital Region Police Office chief Director Carmelo Valmoria formed a special investigating team and a composite team to look into the circumstances behind the "accidental" shooting of Revilla.
Valmoria ordered Southern Police District Chief Superintendent Henry Ranola to gather more information on the incident.
He said the probe would determine whether it was purely accidental, as claimed by Fortun.
Revilla was rushed Saturday morning to the Asian Hospital and Medical Center in Muntinlupa City after sustaining a gunshot wound on the chest. He reportedly accidentally shot himself while he was cleaning his gun.
Jolo is one of the son's of detained Sen. Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr., who is now being tried before the Sandiganbayan for plunder and graft charges in connection with the P10 billion pork barrel scam.
