MANILA, Philippines - Detained Sen. Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr. on Monday filed a motion with the Sandiganbayan to allow him to visit his son Cavite Vice Gov. Jolo Revilla who is currently confined at the Asian Hospital and Medical Center in Muntinlupa City.

The senator asked for at least three hours to visit his son who was rushed to the hospital last Saturday after he reportedly shot himself by accident while cleaning a handgun.

The younger Revilla underwent a surgery last Sunday to remove blood from his lungs. He was sent back to intensive care after the operation.

"Sen. Revilla, himself shocked about this very unfortunate incident, feels helpless and distraught about this serious threat to the life of his son, Jolo," Senator Revilla's counsel Ramon Esguerra said.

Esguerra added that the older Revilla does not know the true condition of his son due to his current detention.

"More importantly, Sen. Revilla - as any father would feel - bears that it is his obligation to visit his son to ensure that he is already safe and in a stable medical condition, and to spend a few moments with him to provide support and assurance in this life-threatening situation," Esguerra said.

The Muntinlupa City police are still investigating the incident.
