MANILA, Philippines - On his two-day state visit to the Philippines, France President François Hollande is scheduled for a short visit to Guiuan, Eastern Samar, one of the areas severely devastated by super typhoon Yolanda in 2013.

Hollande wanted to see for himself the current situation of the town of Guiuan more than a year after Yolanda struck, Guiuan Mayor Christopher Gonzales said in an interview with ABS-CBN News Channel.

"He wants to see the ground zero says after the typhoon. He wants to feel what's happening on the ground and how we are doing now," Gonzales said.

Gonzales added that the French President will also deliver a speech at the Guiuan Elementary School which would focus on the fight against climate change.

"He wants to tell the children... the people that we have to act now to fight climate change," Gonzales added.

Hollande's visit to the country would focus on political and bilateral issues, as well as the issue of climate change.

France will host the Conference of Parties to the United National Framework Convention on Climate Change on December.

The climate change summit aims to produce a legally binding and universal agreement on climate change from all countries which will take effect by 2020.

Film stars Marion Cotillard and Melanie Laurent, who are known as environmental advocates, are among the French delegation to the Philippines.
