Cayetano to Binay: Show your bank accounts

Patricia Lourdes Viray - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano on Thursday reiterated his challenge to Vice President Jejomar Binay to sign the waiver that would allow the Senate to look into his bank accounts.

The Vice President allegedly got up to P651 million in kickbacks from the land deal between the Boy Scouts of the Philippines and land developer Alphaland Corp., according to former Makati Vice Mayor Ernesto Mercado.

"Simpleng-simple ang hamon ko kay VP Binay e. Pirmahan mo yung waiver, bukasan tayo ng bank accounts," Cayetano said in an interview with radio dzMM.

Alphaland and the Boy Scouts earlier denied the allegations that Binay received kickbacks from the land deal.

Mercado alleged that Binay used the money to fund hid campaign during the 2010 elections.

During a Senate inquiry on the corruption allegations against Binay, Alphaland owner Roberto Ongpin clarified that there was nothing irregular in its joint venture project with the Boy Scouts.

Cayetano also questioned Binay's non-attendance on the Senate hearings regarding the allegations against him.

"Bakit si Vice-President Binay, 'pag kontrata, negosasyon, nawawala siya, iba ang pumipirma... Pero bakit 'pag press release, photo ops, 'pag awarding ng mga medalya, andoon siya parati?" Cayetano asked.
