MANILA, Philippines - Two Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) informants were reportedly killed in the ensuing shootout when they led police commandos to the hideout of terrorist bomber Zulkifli bin Hir, alias Marwan, in Mamasapano last Jan. 25.
Informed intelligence sources said the MILF informants had been helping the Special Action Force (SAF) track down Marwan, who has been mobile over the years in Mindanao.
“Our information is raw to this effect and therefore needs validation,” a source said.
All they have so far is that the two were reportedly killed in the fighting following the killing of Marwan inside his hut in Barangay Pidsandawan, the source added.
However, other security sources said they don’t have any relevant information over the reported involvement of two MILF fighters in anti-terror operations in Mamasapano.
If indeed MILF fighters were involved, only the people who planned and executed the anti-terror operation have full knowledge, the sources added.
The sources said all they know was that the US military provided a drone at the height of the fighting to guide reinforcing troops to the exact location of the beleaguered commandos.
“As to the actual involvement of the two MILF rebels in the operation that resulted in Marwan’s death, we are blank on that particular matter,” the source said.
