New computers, passport readers installed at NAIA
MANILA, Philippines - New computers and passport readers were installed at the counters of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport terminals on Tuesday.
A total of 171 passport readers, 160 desktop computers and 141 UPS units were installed in the airport yesterday, according to a statement from the Bureau of Immigration (BI).
“We are fast-tracking these improvements to modernize the system to be able to provide a more efficient and effective immigration service for 2015,” BI Commissioner Siegfred Mison said.
According to Mison, the bureau is expecting a more "vibrant" year with the upgrades of international airports in the country.
The upgraded computers and scanners would improve the services of major international airports in the country.
A number of 58 passport readers and 40 computers will be delivered to Clark International Airport and Mactan-Cebu International Airport by February, Mison added.
The installation of new computers are in time for the arrival of Pope Francis this week and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit which the Philippines will host this year, according to Mison.
The upgraded computers and scanners will ease queues at international airports in the country and quicken the current immigration document processing, BI noted.
