Israel city features Philippine marker in city attractions

MANILA, Philippines - Rishon Lezion, the fourth largest city in Israel, included the Philippine marker Open Doors Monument in its official brochure for tourists.
 
The said monument symbolizes the friendship between the Philippines and Israel, and the former's act of saving the Jews during the Holocaust in Europe when President Manuel L. Quezon implemented the "open doors" policy in 1939.
 
Quezon's policy allowed 1,300 Jewish refugees to enter the Philippines at a time most countries refuse them.
 
Unveiled in June 21, 2009, the marker is located along Shederat Hasidei Umot Ha-Olam (Righteous among Nations Boulevard) in Rishon Lezion.
 
The Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv noted that the gesture is "significant in promoting the historical monument and the deep friendship between the Philippines and Israel."
