‘No kid gloves in Senate probe on Iloilo overprice’

Marvin Sy - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - There will be no kid glove treatment for the Senate President.

Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV vows to ask the same tough questions in the Senate Blue Ribbon committee investigation on the allegedly overpriced Iloilo Convention Center (ICC) as he has been doing in the Blue Ribbon subcommittee hearings on the allegedly overpriced Makati City Hall annex building involving Vice President Jejomar Binay.

“We will attend and we will ask the same questions,” Trillanes said yesterday.

He brushed aside claims of Binay’s camp that the Blue Ribbon committee is taking its time in starting the inquiry into the ICC.

Senate President Franklin Drilon has been accused of plunder in connection with the project.

Former Iloilo provincial administrator Manuel Mejorada filed the complaint against Drilon, who had employed him as a consultant.

It is the third time he filed the case against Drilon.

Speaking to reporters, Trillanes said he continues to trust Drilon as the leader of the Senate and sees no reason to do otherwise.

If evidence could be shown that Drilon was involved in any wrongdoing, a complaint can also be filed before the Senate ethics committee, he added.
