MANILA, Philippines - United States Marine Private First Class Joseph Scott Pemberton has been transferred to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) headquarters in Quezon City.
In a televised press conference, AFP chief of staff Gen. Gregorio Catapang said a helicopter that carried Pemberton arrived at Camp Aguinaldo at 8:45 a.m.
He said Pemberton will be detained at the Mutual Defense Board Security Engagement Facility while the preliminary investigation of his murder case is ongoing.
Pemberton will be staying in a 20-footer air-conditioned container van that has a military-type camp bed.
The American soldier is accused of killing Filipino transgender Jennifer Laude in a motel in Olongapo City.
Pemberton did not attend the preliminary probe of the incident at the Olongapo Prosecutor's Office yesterday.
Catapang said Pemberton will be guarded by American and Filipino personnel.
