No tropical cyclone seen this week

MANILA, Philippines - No tropical cyclone is expected to affect the country in the remaining days of August.

Robert Sawi, a senior weather forecaster at the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), said yesterday a low-pressure area was spotted at 620 kilometers east of Borongan, Eastern Samar at 4 p.m. yesterday.

“There is a slim chance of tropical cyclone formation for the remaining days of August,” he said.

Bicol and Eastern Visayas will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms until today.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, mostly in the afternoon or evening.

Three to four cyclones usually enter the Philippine area of responsibility in August but only one, tropical cyclone Jose, has entered the country so far this month.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said the coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate.
